OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2011. Stress tests performed at Russian nuclear power plants after the accident at Fukushima-1 NPP in Japan had proved reliability of Russian NPPs.
Head of Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko said at the conference in Kiev, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the accident at Chernobyl NPP.

“We, in Russia, are finishing stress tests at all operating nuclear power plants”, he said and added that it was “a short-term conclusion because of the impact of the accident at the Japanese NPP “.

According to Head of Rosatom, Russian nuclear power plants constructed under the new project are capable of standing the situation and a number of factors which had happened in Japan and resulted in the accident at Fukushima-1 NPP”.

“We’ve checked what had happened if instead of Fukushima it would have been our modern project. We’ve checked the impact of 14-meter tsunami, 9-point earthquake and the impact of some other factors. We had nothing to worry about”, he said and added that “new reactor technologies comply with safety systems and guarantee protection from breakdown of all systems”.
