OREANDA-NEWS. May 05, 2011. Cargo throughput of Archangelsk port in January-April 2011 increased by 25% compared with the same period in 2010, to 1,039,600 tons, the Archangelsk Port Authority said.

The volume increase was driven primarily by oil products exports, which soared by 2.1 times to 283,000 tons in January-April. However, there was a decline in the segment of coal and timber cargo: handling of coal fell by 18% to 80,500 tons, timber volume dropped by 4.5% to 147,800 tons. Coastal traffic decreased by 8.2% to 229,700 tons.

The year-round navigable Port of Arkhangelsk seaport is located in the delta of the Northern Dvina River flowing into the White Sea. Cargoes transported via the Northern Sea Route are passing through the port’s terminals. The stevedore companies operating at the port handle a broad range cargo: general, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metals, fertilizers and heavy-lift cargo, suction and grab cargoes. The Arkhangelsk port capacity allows handling up to 4,5 million tons a year. Throughput of the port of Arkhangelsk in 2010 increased year-over-year by 30.1% to 4,5 million tons.
