OREANDA-NEWS. May 05, 2011. Freight traffic passing through the port of Kavkaz in January-April 2011 decreased by 17.7% compared with the same period of last year, to 1,741,840 tons, the Port Authority reported. In the reporting period the port handled 577 cargo ships versus 710 units a year earlier.

The four-month volume of exports rose by 2% to 1,292,100 tons, while imports plunged by 6 times to 67,200 tons. Cargo transshipment through the outer anchorage shrank by 21.5% to 382,500 tons.
 
Port of Kavkaz is situated between the Azov and the Russian Black Sea coast. The 4.5-m-deep harborage allows handling river boats and seagoing ships (offshore). The port specializes in handling dry bulk cargo (mineral fertilizer, concentrates of various ores, grain), general cargo, timber, and containers. In 2010, cargo throughput of Port of Kavkaz totaled 9.65 million tons.
