OREANDA-NEWS. May 16, 2011. National Company “KazMunayGas” (hereinafter – NC KMG) held a round table discussion on the development prospects of the projects with foreign participation in the oil and gas industry, including the issues of the cooperation with Chinese companies.

Bolat Palymbetov, Managing Director and Deputy Chairman of the Board, JSC NC “KazMunayGas”, representatives of the major republican print media, issued in the state language, broadcasters and experts took part in the event.

Leading off the round table discussion, Bolat Palymbetov pointed out that National Company “KazMunayGas” gives much prominence to the cooperation with the mass media, that are published in the state language.

- This is a traditional meeting of NC KMG with the chief editors and journalists of Kazakh-language mass media. Today we are going to discuss current trends in the oil and gas industry and answer the questions of present interest of the journalists, including those on implementation of joint projects with the Chinese partners, - said Bolat Palymbetov.

Thus, at year-end 2011 the share of the Chinese ventures in the total production volume of the companies with the participation of NC KMG comprised 15.4%. It is estimated, that in 2015 the share of the Chinese ventures in the total production volume with the participation of NC KMG will make 11%, and by 2020 – 5%.

In the course of the round table discussion Nurlybay Kiyalbayev, Director of Department of Development and Recovery Process, JSC NC “KazMunayGas”, noticed that out of 11 oil-production enterprises with the participation of NC KMG, Chinese companies are the partners of 5 joint ventures: JSC “PetroKazakhstan KumkolResorses” (67% CNPC), JSC “Turgay Petroleum” (33,5% CNPC), LLP JV “KazGerMunay” (33,5% CNPC), JSC “Karazhanbasmunay” (50% CITIC), JSC “Mangistaumunaygas” (50% CNPC). Herewith the number of workers – PRC’s citizens in these oil-production companies comprises 1-3%.

- The origin of an investor – China, Russia, USA and others, is of marginal significance, since anyway, interests of the Republic of Kazakhstan are protected through the mechanisms of licensing, monitoring system on the part of Ministry of Oil and Gas of the RK and other field-oriented agencies, and through liabilities under subsoil use contracts, - pointed out N. Kiyalbayev.

In conclusion the participants of the round table discussion supported implementation of arrangements aimed at actualization and improvement of quality of mass media news items in Kazakh, and formation of a competitive information realm through development of professional Kazakh-language newsmaking.
