OREANDA-NEWS. May 26, 2011. A breach in LPG pipeline on Raiyya Road created panic in the area, following gas leakage and a few explosions on Wednesday afternoon. However, no fatality or loss of property was reported in the incident. The breach was caused by digging work by Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) which employed its JCB bulldozers without giving any warning to Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited (GSPC) which maintains the pipeline.

"After the breach and subsequent explosions were reported, we alerted the Rajkot fire brigade officials and sent a team of officials to the site. Gas supply was stopped immediately, while fire-fighters worked to douse the fire. The fire caused by explosions was put out within no time.

However, more than 2,000 consumers in Miranagar, Saraswati Park, Ganesh Park and Shriji Nagar on Raiyya Road had to live without the gas supply," said a GSPC official. The GSPC officials plugged in the breach at the time of going to press.
