OREANDA-NEWS. May 26, 2011. JSC RusHydro announces that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation of India (NHPC Limited). The document was signed by the Chairman of the Management Board of RusHydro Evgeny Dod and Technical Director of NHPC Limited D.P. Bhargava.

According to the document the companies will consider cooperation opportunities in hydropower engineering and renewable energy sources development, as well as in consulting and management services. The parties also agreed to jointly study the possibilities to participate in implementation of joint "turn key" projects in hydropower engineering area in India and other countries.

Hydropower potential of India is considerable; the nation is one of the promising regions for RusHydro according to the company's strategic plan. Therefore the work on joint projects is of special interest for RusHydro.

National Hydroelectric Power Corporation of India (NHPC) was established in 1975 to plan, stimulate and organize a complex and effective development of hydropower of India. Later on the NHPC began works in the area of traditional and alternative power sources in India and abroad.

Currently, NHPC is one of the leading companies in India. NHPC has successfully implemented 14 hydroelectric projects with installed capacity of 5,295 MW. Another 10 projects with total capacity of 4,502 MW are now underway. Two projects were commissioned in the neighboring countries with India - Nepal and Bhutan.
