OREANDA-NEWS. May 31, 2011. Belarusian state concern Belgospischeprom sees no reason for panic buying of salt in some Belarusian regions, the concern said in a statement.

The Belarusian market has a capacity of 128,000-130,000 tonnes of salt annually, and OJSC Mozyrsol accounts for 55% of the market, OJSC Belaruskali 23%, and importers for 22%.

Mozyrsol produced 137,600 tonnes of Extra salt in January-April 2011, up 7.1% on the year, and sold 136,300 tones, up 5.6%, including 26,900 tonnes on the domestic market, up 10.7%.

The company was supposed to be suspended for routine repairs on May 17, but the decision was repealed later because of hikes in demand. Mozyrsol is capable of making 700 tonnes of salt a day, whereas the country’s monthly requirement is 10,000-11,000 tonnes.
