OREANDA-NEWS. June 02, 2011. OJSC Power Machines have made and successfully field-tested a unique 1200 MW high speed turbine generator with full water cooling for the first Novovoronezhskaya Nuclear Power Plant 2 (NNPP-2) unit.

High speed steam turbines and 1200 MW turbine generators for NPPs are new designs from Power Machines. They are designed for a new generation of nuclear power units with increased reliability and safety and were created in Russia as part of the NPP-2006 project.

TZV-1200-2 turbine generators, designed and manufactured by Power Machines for NNPP-2 and Leningradskaya NPP-2 (LNPP-2), are new generation turbine generators with full water cooling. They are highly efficient, explosion and fire proof turbine generators for nuclear power plants and are unique in the international nuclear power plant industry. These fundamentally new turbine generator construction solutions were developed by experts from the St. Petersburg power engineering group using 800 MW capacity machines, that have been in operation for a long time at the Ryazanskaya SDPP and Permskaya SDPP, and also 890 MW capacity turbine generators made in 2010 for the 4th Beloyarskaya NPP unit, which is under construction.

Contracts to supply a set of basic power equipment for turbine island to NNPP-2 and LNPP-2 were signed between Power Machines and Atomenergoprom in May 2008. The total  contracts value  is worth more than 40 billion roubles. Two units will be built at each nuclear plant with 1200 MW water-water energy reactors.

Under the terms of the contract, Power Machines will design, manufacture and supply four sets of turbine plants, including steam turbines, condensers and main auxiliaries for turbine plants (heat exchange and pump equipment, piping and necessary fittings) as well as four sets of turbine generators with auxiliary excitation systems and exciters for NNPP-2 and LNPP-2 blocks. In addition, Power Machines will supervise the installation and start up work on the NPP sites for all supplied equipment.

In December 2010 Power Machines made and tested, in the presence of the client, a prototype of the new high speed 1200 MW turbine designed for the first NNPP-2 unit. The turbines will start to be delivered very soon. The generator is planned to be shipped at the end of this year. The delivery of equipment for the second NNPP-2 unit is due to be completed in 2013. In addition, equipment for the first LNPP-2 block is in production and the shipping is planned to begin in 2011.

NNPP-2 and LNPP-2 will be the first nuclear power plants for 15 years to be built from scratch in Russia.
