OREANDA-NEWS. June 14, 2011. The Saratov Oil Refinery (subsidiary of TNK-BP) became a leader of the environmental transparency rating drawn up by the international information group Interfax.

TNK-BP is consistently implementing a program aimed at improved performance of its environmental protection projects. In 2010, for example, the Saratov Oil Refinery implemented a major investment project of approximately 1 billion rubles that consisted in reconstruction of a rail car loading rack. Implementation of this project, according to preliminary estimates, reduced the emission of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere by 1,039.44 tons a year.

The level of environmental transparency is one of the most important factors in evaluation of companies. The authors of the rating emphasize that investors usually prefer the most efficient and safe activities and enterprises. There is a direct correlation between the environmental transparency of enterprises and the openness of their activities.

In 2011, the Saratov Oil Refinery joined the list of “100 Best Enterprises of Russia. Ecology and Environmental Management.” The management system of the refinery is certified as compliant with the international standard ISO 14001:2004. The Saratov Oil Refinery monitors the state of soil, air, and ground waters on its territory and carries out over 50,000 environmental tests a year in the framework of this system.
