OREANDA-NEWS. July 04, 2011. In the near future a delegation of the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology of Azerbaijan will go to Ukraine.

Manager of project Trans-Eurasia Information Superhighway (TASIM) Ilyas Naibov-Aylisli informs that within the project they are negotiating with a number of telecom operators.

"We are in active negotiations with Georgia and Ukraine concerning these countries’ involvement in the TASIM Project Consortium. Ukrtelekom is expected to represent Ukraine in the consortium, and Georgia has not yet decided on the operator to represent it. During the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation to Ukraine it is expected to discuss thoroughly the aspects of project implementation," he said.

According to Naibov-Aylisli, representatives of these countries will not participate in the meeting to be held in Gabala on 12-13July, as negotiations with them are conducted at the intergovernmental level.

For the first time the project was presented to the international community in 2008 at the International Broadcasting Conference, where international experts, heads of communications administrations and large telecommunications companies approved the project and adopted a declaration. Under the Declaration, the project has received political support of Turkey, the USA, Russia, Kazakhstan, India, Iran, Ukraine, Malaysia, Egypt and other countries.

Today it is known that almost all countries in the region will accede to the project, including Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Belarus, China who confirmed their participation in the project.

The project addresses the issue of building fiber-optic network in the direction Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan provided earlier as part of Trans-Asia-Europe Project, but postponed for various reasons for a long time.
