OREANDA-NEWS. July 05, 2011. Ukraine’s Yuzhny Merchant Sea Port in the first half of 2011 handled 11,492,000 tons, a 39 percent growth over H1, 2010, and a record high versus 11,149,000 tons handed in 2008, the state-run company said.

In Q2 2011 the port handled 6,213,600 tons of cargo, a 75.5 percent surge from the same period of 2010.

In June, the Port of Yuzhny demonstrated a three-fold volume gain to 1,959,100 tons.

Since Jan, 2011 the port has handled 446 ships and 93,361 rail cars.

State-owned Yuzhny Merchant Sea Port founded in 1978 is located on the northwest coast of the Black Sea, in the ice-free Small Adzhalyksk (Grygoryivsky) estuary, 30 km northeast of Odessa. The port is connected to the sea by a 3km-long, 14m-deep approach canal.

In 2009, the company posted a net income of UAH 557,882 million, gross income rose by 69.75% to UAH 2,552,37 million. In 2010, Yuzhny port’s cargo throughput was up 2.1% year-over-year to 18,22 million tons.
