OREANDA-NEWS. July 12, 2011. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed profound gratitude for the support provided by the Government of Turkmenistan and the written message of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulating on his re-election as the United Nations Secretary-General.

In his message the UN Secretary-General wrote that when he took office nearly five years ago, he had pledged to serve the interests of UN Member States. The UN Secretary-General said that “being an optimist full of hopes for the future, I will under your support strive to carry out more and better work for people all over the world, who approach the United Nations for help, to improve the life of nations of the Earth.”

The UN Secretary-General assured that these convictions and commitments that he had been guided by before would continue to inspire and support him in his aspirations.

The UN Secretary-General said that it had been an enormous privilege to lead this great Organization and manage such a courageous staff devoted to their work. “We have worked in close collaboration to achieve progress on critical global issues of peace and security, development and human rights.” The UN Secretary General emphasized that “I am proud of what we have done together even being aware of hard-to-address challenges of the modern world that are ahead of us”.

The UN Secretary General said that endeavoring to deepen partnerships he intended to build a strong and effective instrument for serving the whole humanity through upholding the fundamental principles of the UN Charter. “Since my election I believed in the need for the United Nations Organization, and today my belief in the need for our Organization has become even stronger.”
