OREANDA-NEWS. July 26, 2011. Boxcars of the 11—9861 series, based on the Habii(ll)nss model, built at Tatravagonka in Slovakia for Freight One, are being tested in Russia. The work will be done at the Rolling Stock Research and Development Institute (VNIKTI) in Kolomna.

The 4-axis boxcar was developed jointly in strict accordance with Russian technological standards and Freight One’s quality requirements. The project sets the groundwork for reliable and efficient point-to-point rail links among Russia, China, the Asia-Pacific region in general and the countries of Eastern and Central Europe.

The innovative wagon is fundamentally different from Russian developments of the previous generation. Its sliding side walls increase loading space to 10 meters compared with the maximum of 3 m of the wagons currently being used on the RZD network, In addition, its sliding roof allows loading and unloading with a crane, while its increased axle load of 25 metric tons increases its capacity to 72 tons and freight volume to 162 cubic meters.

Using the new-generation wagon will provide significant economic benefits. It is expected that the wagon will increase hauling capacity by 15—20% over existing analogues while reducing the cost of operation by 12%.

Future plans include building innovative boxcars in Russia. For its part, Freight One will hold one-third of the rights to the research and development results in the creation of a multipurpose boxcar.

We remind you that an agreement on the joint development and manufacture of railway equipment was reached in September 2008, when a memorandum on cooperation in the development and manufacture of new types of freight rolling stock was signed in Bratislava.

An agreement on the creation of a joint venture for the manufacture of multipurpose boxcars and articulated flatcars in Russia was signed in April 2010 during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to the Slovak Republic.
