OREANDA-NEWS. August 3, 2011. Azerbaijan has used the visit to Geneva by a delegation led by deputy foreign minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev (July 25-29) for a round of bilateral negotiations on the conditions of its membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reports that within the visit framework there were conducted bilateral talks on WTO membership with the European Union, Ecuador, Switzerland, Brazil and China.  

Talks involved representatives of the Ministries of Economic Development, of Agriculture, of Industry & Energy, and the State Customs Committee.  

Azerbaijan has been negotiating about WTO membership since 1999. Holding of bilateral talks is one of the conditions of the IX round of multilateral negotiations on WTO membership.
