OREANDA-NEWS. August 8, 2011. The share of loss-making companies in Belarus increased to 10% (878 entities) of the total number as of June 1, 2011 from 9.9% as of June 1, 2010, an official with the National Statistics Committee told reporters Wednesday.

Their net loss tripled to 2.422 trillion Belarusian rubles (Br).

The return on sales in January-May 2011 was at 9.4%, up from 7.5% in January-May 2010.

In the manufacturing sector, the share of loss-makers was at 16.7% as of June 1, 2011, up from 16.1% the previous year. The profitability of sold products reached 11.7% from 8.3% the year before.

The share of loss-makers in the construction sector rose to 11.9% in May 2011 from 11% last year. Profitability of sold products went down 6.5% as of June 1, 2011 from 6.9% the year before.

In agriculture, the share of loss-making enterprises was at 1.6% as of June 1, 2011, up from 1.5%. Profitability of sold products rose to 8.7% from 4.2%.

The share of loss-makers in the transport sector stood at 10.4% as of June 1, 2011, down from 11.7% on June 1, 2010. The profitability of this industry dropped to 6.4% from 11.3% in January-May 2010.
