OREANDA-NEWS. August 25, 2011.  Krasnoselsky, Frunzensky, Petrodvortsovy, Kalininsky, and Primorsky Districts of St. Petersburg and Kronshtadt hosted the opening of sports and recreation complexes (SRC) built as part of the Gazprom to Children program.

Participating in the celebrations in Krasnoselsky and Frunzensky Districts were Georgy Poltavchenko, Acting Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom's Management Committee, Kirill Seleznev, Member of the Gazprom's Management Committee, Director General of Gazprom mezhregiongaz, representatives of local authorities and sports organizations of the city.

“Our company actively cooperates with St. Petersburg, also as part of the Gazprom to Children program. Ten sports and recreation complexes have been already built, including six opening today. One more complex will be commissioned by the year-end.

In the nearest years, besides the construction of new sports and recreation complexes, we are planning to start the construction of specialized sport facilities in St. Petersburg. People who decided to commit themselves to professional sport will also use them.

I am pleased that through implementing the Gazprom to Children program, our company is able to contribute to the upbringing of healthy and self-motivated younger generation. I am sure that it is the insurance of Russia's future success,” mentioned Alexey Miller addressing young athletes of St. Petersburg.

Background

 Gazprom is focusing on the upbringing of healthy younger generation. As part of the nationwide Gazprom to Children program, embracing 69 regions of the country, the Company constructs sports facilities and recreation areas for children, purchases the equipment necessary to establish sports activities, artistic and amateur clubs, arranges festivals and sporting events.

 The program engages 40 subsidiary companies and units of Gazprom as well as regional gas marketing companies comprising the Gazprom mezhregiongaz structure.

 In six sports and recreation complexes opened in St. Petersburg today, the conditions for different sports activities had been created. In particular, they contain multifunctional gyms equipped for playing mini football, handball, basketball and volleyball, as well as aerobic and fitness facilities. Five SRCs include 25-meter swimming pools adapted for training handicapped children.
