OREANDA-NEWS. September 12, 2011. New filter-compensating devices were put into operation at electric substations No. 8 and 18 of PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih”. This new equipment will enable to slow down frequency of energy oscillation in net and to increase electrical power factor improving energy quality. This ensures more stable operation of electric equipment at all units of the company.

Installation of new filters at PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih” is an important step forward in energy-efficient process, which will lead to reduction of total reactive energy consumption by the company and cost saving. Expecting cost saving for energy consumption amounts to about 360,000 UAH per year.

New equipment installation will positively impact safety operation of the company. Filters equipped by microprocessor units for security and control are completely automated and specialists of PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih” will need only to monitor operation of filters, write down their energy readings and maintain these devices regularly. Special premises were built for filters at substation No. 8 taking into account all H&S rules making maintenance of these devices much safer for employees. Filter-compensating devices were mounted at substation No.17 on open air ground.

Installation and maintenance of new filters at substations of PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih” lasted about 9 months. Total cost of project amounted to 18 million UAH.

Aleksandr Balahnin, Foreman of Substation Net Shop of PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih”: <>“New filters enable to improve electric power specification produced by our substations. Now we can significantly reduce the number of defects in net impacted negatively energy quality of operation of electric motors and cables in the shops. Now we prepare to measure improvements of energy in our nets. And filter-compensating devices enable to reduce energy consumption payments significantly. We expect this cost saving will help to repay installation of filters in 2 or 3 years. The company plans to install such filters at substation No.5 in 2012.”
