OREANDA-NEWS. September 12, 2011. ROSATOM and Rolls-Royce group of companies have signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation.

The memorandum was signed on September 12, 2011 in frames of British Prime Minister D. Cameron’s visit to Moscow and in furtherance of agreements reached by Russia President Dmitry Medvedev and UK Prime Minister David Cameron on the bilateral cooperation in various areas, including the peaceful use of atomic energy.

In his address UK Prime Minister Cameron emphasized the importance of signing this document and said: “Today we have taken a step forward in our co-operation with Russia. We have agreed to work together on a range of issues, including the development of nuclear energy and I'm delighted that this means Rolls-Royce will be working with ROSATOM.”

President of Rolls-Royce nuclear division Lawrie Haynes said he was delighted that the companies have reached these important agreements on the work with ROSATOM. Our two companies are the world-class companies and I believe, this cooperation will lead to tangible benefits, since programs of new nuclear build are massively developing both in Russia and the UK, he said. It is important that our cooperation will allow possibilities for the British nuclear power and industry companies of entering new markets, he added.

Deputy Director General of ROSATOM for development and international business Kirill Komarov said: “Rolls-Royce is an attractive partner for the Russian nuclear industry. I’m confident that our companies will build sound relations. We consider possibilities of a comprehensive cooperation in a number of areas in Russia, the UK and third countries.

The signed memorandum expands capabilities of the two global nuclear leaders in the field of manufacturing and mutual supplies of equipment (in particular, APCS systems) and components, as well as existing reactor fleet including for third country markets.
