OREANDA-NEWS. September 21, 2011. EuroChem offered renewed support to residents of the Volgograd region and the Volgograd branch of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCON) as they battled wildfires in the region.

Less than 24 hours following Volgograd EMERCOM’s request for assistance, EuroChem-VolgaKaliy had arranged for 300 portable backpack fire extinguishers to be delivered to ground crews fighting the blazes.

August saw wildfires breakout across several areas surrounding Volgograd, prompting Anatoly Brovko, Head of the Regional Administration, to declare a state of emergency in the region.

More than 200 specialized firefighting units, representing over a thousand people, took part in the efforts, including EMERCOM emergency response teams, Forest Service agents, the Interior Ministry and forest fire center and local volunteer fire brigades.

EuroChem-VolgaKaliy actively provides assistance to individuals affected by the wildfires in Volgograd. During the 2010 wildfire season, the company provided RUB 10 million for the construction of three medical centers in the towns of Alexandrovka, Fomenkovo, and Lapshinskaya.
