OREANDA-NEWS. September 26, 2011. Agricultural Bank of China Limited (ABC) launched the first off-site disaster recovery drill for the information system of the data center and has achieved a big success in Beijing. Mr. Yang Kun, Executive Director and Vice President of ABC, served as the chief field director and made a speech in the closing ceremony, reported the press-centre of ABC.

The off-site disaster recovery drill, jointly implemented by technical departments and business departments of the Head Office and branches, was the first off-site disaster recovery drill at operational level in ABC’s history. Mr. Yang Kun gave high appreciation to this drill. He also pointed out that the success of this drill fully demonstrates that ABC has established a disaster recovery command system and has technically overcome various difficulties in the development of the off-site disaster backup system. Besides, ABC has acquired the capability of consistent operation and disaster relief support, which marks that the development of ABC’s off-site disaster backup center has entered a more mature stage.

To prepare for the development of ABC’s disaster backup system in the next stage, Mr. Yang Kun asked the technical departments to sum up the experience in this drill and gradually expand the drill to cover the Head Office and tier-1 branches and make all outlets be involved. All tier-1 and tier-2 branches should, in addition to cooperating with the Head Office in completing the emergency and disaster backup system at the Head Office level, carry out the development of branch-level disaster backup systems under their respective jurisdiction. The business departments should attach importance to and engage in disaster backup, formulate or improve the corresponding emergency replan for operation recovery as soon as possible, and enhance training and drill as well. The risk management departments should further supervise the disaster backup management and establish risk management objectives at company level, so as to provide policy and strategic guidance to technical and business departments in risk management.

The technical departments should intensify the disaster backup development in all aspects and make unified planbased on resources, in order to realize sustainable operating capability after the disaster backup transition. Mr. Yang Kun required that the development of Local Disaster Backup Center of Shanghai Data Center should be accelerated to reach the highest disaster backup and recovery level - Level VI, and to support the operating systems in realizing zero data loss after disaster backup transition.

This was a drill at operational level. That is to say, it was an off-site disaster recovery drill for the information system of the data center. Aiming to recover key businesses, with the leader of head office as the chief director and under the cooperation of relevant departments and outlets, it was realized by using business data transmitted from Shanghai to Beijing through real-time backup and the off-site disaster backup system in Beijing and by considering real business environment in the branches and outlets.

The drill was lasted for 2 hours and 20 minutes and experienced three steps of emergency response, early warning preparation and disaster recovery, all of which went smoothly.
