OREANDA-NEWS. September 26, 2011. Medium-to-long Term Development Planning on Health Workers was issued by Anhui Province, according to which, number of registered nurses per a thousand population will increase to 2.3 in 2020 from that of 1.02 in 2009.

The development planning, spanning from the year of 2011 to 2020, stresses six tasks in health undertakings, namely, cultivation of grass-root health workers, introduction of excellent physicians, cultivation of urgently-needed personnels, inheriting of traditional Chinese medicine, standardized training and ethics-orientated education.

Total medical workers in Anhui Province reached 244,600 persons, lagging far behind national average level by around 30 percent, and the number of licensed (assistant) physicians per a thousand people were 1.17, registered nurses 1.02, professional workers in health institutions 0.15. The shortage of medical workers in grass-roots area was even worse.

The planning stipulates that, by the year of 2015, total medical workers in Anhui are set to reach 300,000, that number will stand at 395,000 in 2020. Meanwhile, distribution and constitution of medical workers will be optimized, as the number of licensed physicians per a thousand people will be 1.4 in 2020, licensed physicians in Chinese medicine 0.31, registered nurses 2.3, and professional workers in health institutions 0.23.
