OREANDA-NEWS. October 4, 2011. Cargo traffic at the Ukrainian Port of Yuzhny in January-September, 2011 totaled 17,037,600 tons, a 29.1 percent growth from last year’s figures and an 11.8 pct gain versus projected numbers, the company statistics said.

In January-September, transit cargo transshipment rose to 8,727,900 tons, 3,290,500 tons more than a year ago.

The 29 percent growth was driven primarily by handling of ore cargoes - 7,778,800 tons (including offshore transshipment).

In the reporting period, Yuzhny port handled d 681 vessels and 138,982 railcars.

In September, cargo traffic at Yuzhny’s terminals rose to 1,894,100 tons (up109,8% vs planned numbers). The port’s stevedores handled 82 ships and 15,085 raicars.

State-run Yuzhny Merchant Sea Port (Port of Yuzhny) founded in 1978 is located on the northwest coast of the Black Sea, in the ice-free Small Adzhalyksk (Grygoryivsky) estuary, 30 km northeast of Odessa. The Port is connected to the sea by a 3km-long 14-m-deep canal so pilotage service is required for inbound and outbound vessels. In 2010, Port of Yuzhny handled 18.22 million tons of different cargoes, a 2.1% gain year-over-year.
