OREANDA-NEWS. October 17, 2011. Belarus’ population was at 9,468,000 people as of September 1, 2011, a decline by 13,200 from January 1, 2011, the National Statistics Committee said in a report.

In January-August 2011, 71,276 babies were born in Belarus, a decline by 469 from January-August 2010, and 91,286 people died, down by 238 year-on-year.

Natural population loss was at 20,010 in January-August 2011, up from 19,779 in January-August 2010.

Birth rate amounted to 11.3 per 1,000 in January-August 2011, unchanged year on year. Death rate totalled 14.5 per 1,000. Death rate among children under one year of age was at 3.8 per 1,000, down from 4.0 in January-August 2010.

According to the committee, net migration inflow in the period amounted to 6,817 people.

The number of registered marriages increased 7.6% in January-August 2011 to 53,495 and the number of divorces went up 8% to 24,628. There were 460 divorces per 1,000 marriages in January-August 2011, compared with 459 in January-August 2010.
