OREANDA-NEWS. October 17, 2011. The Ministry of Labour and Employment,  Government of India, conferred the prestigious Prime Minister’s Shram Awards  for the years 2008, 2009 and 2010, on twenty one employees of Tata Steel at  Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, today.

Dr Manmohan Singh, Hon'ble  Prime Minister of India, gave away the Shram Devi award to Ms Parvati, while  other eminent dignitaries present on the occasion, including Shri Mallikarjun  Kharge, Hon'ble Minister of Labour & Employment, gave away the awards to  others. The awards included cash prize for different categories of Shram award and  ‘Sanad’ as a mark of recognition for the exemplary dedication of each of the  awardees towards their work sphere.

The Prime Minister's Shram Awards were  instituted in the year 1985 for the Public Sector. Its objective is to recognize  outstanding contributions made by workmen as defined in the Industrial Dispute  Act, 1947. This award was extended to the Private Sector in 2004. It recognizes  workmen who have distinguished record of performance, devotion to duty of a  high order, specific contribution in the field of productivity, proven  innovative abilities, presence of mind and exceptional courage. It is also for  workmen who have made supreme sacrifice of laying down their lives in the  conscientious discharge of their duties.
