OREANDA-NEWS. October 19, 2011. In 2011, the reconstruction of the road connecting the airport with Moscow, which would allow the Moscow Domodedovo Airport to become more accessible to motorists, has begun.

The traffic load on some parts of the highway during the peak load is much higher than the calculated rate of 14 thousand vehicles per day. The flow of vehicles has been increasing due to the dynamics of the airport itself - over 10 years, passenger traffic has grown from 2.8 million passengers in 2000 to 22.3 million passengers in 2010.

Priority measures on the most problematic areas will be implemented with the support of the Ministry of Transport of Russia in the next three years: in particular, in 2011, there will be made a turn at 1 km of Kashirskoe Highway (Leninsky District), and the traffic light near Razvilka village, seriously impeding the movement at the entrance to Moscow, will be removed.

In addition, in 2012 it is planned to build four elevated pedestrian crossings, which will increase the speed on the highway, and in 2013-2014, a multi-level interchange will be built at the traffic police post at the entrance to the airport, which is to eliminate congestion, regularly occurring on this stretch of the road. Upon the initiative of Moscow Domodedovo Airport and by the order of the Minister of Russian Transport, Igor Levitin, which he made at the meeting held on March 26, 2011 to the appropriate services, the reconstruction of a multi-level traffic interchange at the ramp in the direction of Molokovo village in order to remove traffic lights, which is to prevent traffic congestion on Kashirskoe Highway (the old line), is under consideration.

Without increasing the capacity of the road, it will be difficult to withstand the repeated load growth associated with the planned growth of passenger traffic, as well as with major world-level sporting events, that Russia will be hosting in the coming years - the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and the FIFA World Cup in 2018. According to preliminary estimates, during the days of the championship, Russia will be visited by more than 1.4 million foreign tourists, and in the most flagrant estimations it will increase passenger traffic at the Moscow Domodedovo Airport by 360,000 people in June 2018. Provided that 75% of these passengers will use cars to move between the airport and Moscow, the additional load on the road will be 270,000 people.

That is why upon the completion of priority actions, in 2014 the second phase should start, which includes the planned reconstruction of the five interchanges, which will make it possible to manage the flow at the entrance to Domodedovo Airport at the speed of 110 km/h. It is planned to build a link road for the highway M-4 "Don", which will provide the high-speed access to the airport from the south of the Moscow Region. It is also planned to increase the number of lanes from 4 to 8 at the site from the interchange near Vostryakovo village to the airport, and from 4 to 6 lanes in the area from the opening of Kashirskoe Highway to the interchange to Vostryakovo.
