OREANDA-NEWS. October 21, 2011. Cargo traffic at the Russian southern port of Kavkaz in nine recent months shrank by 11.9% compared with the same period last year, to 6.23 million tons, the Port Authority said.

In the reporting period, the port saw a 75.2 percent slump year-on-year in inbound cargoes to 169,590 tons. Outbound cargo volume was down 1.7% to 2.44 million tons

The port handled 1592 vessels, down 26.6 percent from last year’s numbers.

Port of Kavkaz is situated between the Azov and the Russian Black Sea coast. The 4.5-m-deep harborage allows handling river boats and seagoing ships (offshore). The port specializes in handling dry bulk cargo (mineral fertilizer, concentrates of various ores, grain), general cargo, timber, and containers. In 2010, cargo throughput of Port of Kavkaz totaled 9.65 million tons.
