OREANDA-NEWS. November 01, 2011.Fujitsu Limited and Chiba Institute of Technology today announced that they have recently joined forces to build a cloud-based virtual desktop environment for the institute's Shibazono Campus.

The new environment will allow students to use CAD and design applications in their studies and development coursework, at anytime and anywhere. In addition, Chiba Institute of Technology will be able to improve the operating efficiency of its ICT resources, reduce overall costs, and enhance security.

This is the first instance that Fujitsu's cloud-based Workplace LCM virtual Desktop as a Service (DaaS) has been employed in a university setting.

Chiba Institute of Technology has also looked at using the environment in advanced courses, such as electronics/mechatronics integrated design technology classes. It will also be testing the deployment of Fujitsu's "Engineering Cloud" for next-generation manufacturing, which the company plans to roll out, in a classroom setting.

In the future, Chiba Institute of Technology plans to further enhance its ICT infrastructure by leveraging cloud virtualization for its entire Shibazono Campus and expanding the technology to its Tsudanuma Campus.
