OREANDA-NEWS. November 24, 2011. RosEnergoAtom Concern and JSC Kirov Factory have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for implementation of joint projects in construction of marine nuclear power facilities, namely for design and building of floating nuclear thermal power plants (FNTPP), Kirov Factory said Thursday.

The two companies are set to participate as priority partners in creation of an industrial park in St. Petersburg, probably at the Kirov Factory base that would be specializing in the construction of serial FNTPPs (7 units until 2030), joint research and development in creation of new generation marine nuclear power facilities (MNPF), and promotion of these projects globally.

In 2013, the Kirov Factory-based yard should be ready to take first orders. The two companies expect the investments in the project may total RUB 350 million.

Kirov Factory will be tasked with designing and construction of the lead vessel, manufacturing substandard metal structures and lock valves. The enterprise expects its share in the project may increase from 20 and 50 percent. Kirov Factory will produce a turbine plant, water coolers, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, circulating pumps, SNF storage and other elements.

The floating power facility is intended to secure year-round supply of electricity and thermal energy to Russia’s regions of the Arctic and the Far East and other isolated regions.
