OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2011. The management of Continued Airworthiness Department of the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) approved and brought into force the Bulletin, allowing Perm Engine Company to rebuild operational PS-90A engines by replacing the high pressure turbine (HPT) module.

Implementation of the Bulletin is necessary for organization of repair of these engines in the shortest time span, without shipping the engines to manufacturing works, but right at the places of airlines' basing. Replacing the HPT module can be performed in the hangar of operating facilities, namely, at the specific site of module repair, which should be certified and meet all the technical requirements, necessary for PS-90A engines' renewal.

At the moment replacement of the HPT module has already been executed on 5 PS-90A-76 engines, belonging to two airlines - "Volga-Dnieper" and "Silk Way Airlines" - the airlines, which had broken ground in the module repair technology. The works were performed by 7 specialists of OJSC "Perm Engine Company", who used special certified equipment. The time needed for one engine operational rebuilding is 15-20 days.

Alexey Mikhalev, "Perm Engine Company" CEO:

- Operational replacement of the module assemblies gives us the opportunity to speed up and cheapen repair of the engines significantly. The high pressure turbine is one of the most stressed operational engine modules, and at the same time it is the most difficult to repair. To perform the overhaul you had to ship the engine to the manufacturer premises, which resulted in irrational losses both for our company and for airlines.

In the meantime, organization of module repair could not be possible without great preparatory work, we have done. Perm Engine Company has taken special responsibility for ensuring perfect quality of every part of the repaired assembly for the engine restored could demonstrate all performance characteristics to the fullest extent.

Our top-priority plan is to create the special site for module rebuilding of PS-90A engines and their modifications in the central Russian air hub - in Moscow. In such cities as Baku (Azerbaidjan), Havana (Cuba) and Ulyanovsk such sites are already serviceable. Using this module repair technology, we are ready to restore 16 out-of-order engines of different airlines in the short term.
