OREANDA-NEWS. December 14, 2011. The XXXII session of the Commission on Aquatic Bioresources of the Caspian Sea is held in Baku on 14-16 December.

At the session opening Deputy Ecology and Natural Resources Minister of Azerbaijan Rauf Hajiyev said that only complete ban for commercial fishery of sturgeons for 5-10 years will enable to stop rundown of precious fish types, set conditions for forming new legal regime for their use on long-term stable basis.

The  meeting is attended by representatives of ministries and committees on fisheries of the Caspian states. The meeting is expected to make decisions on the overall level of sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea in 2012 and the size of the national quotas.

It will also consider a Russia-presented draft agreement on conservation of sturgeon fish resources in the Caspian Sea.
