OREANDA-NEWS. January 13, 2012. In light of the significant opportunities for the development of logistics infrastructure in Ukraine, the industry is given special attention. Thus, in the latest issue of Business Ukraine (Journal of the American Chamber of Commerce) published an article devoted to the current situation and development priorities of the transport sector. Alexander Pitenko (General Director "UVK Ukraine") shared his opinion.

The logistics and transportation sector is very much dependent on the market circumstances and trends in its customer commodity industries, which in turn reflect a current consumers’ capability, B2C credit services, unemployment rate, the localcurrency’s strength, the country’s FDI attractiveness and other macroeconomic factors. To add, in its costs and service level the logistics and transportation sector heavily depends on the quality of infrastructure,regulatory effectiveness, taxation, customs procedures’ transparency, subject specialists’ education and training system, level of integration into pan-European / global logistics and supply chain networks etc.

Making conclusions on the above basis, to our opinion, the development priorities of the Sector in 2012 should be: ?

A more transparency of the industry’s regulatory state bodies in the dialogue with the business sector, due to which the practical expertise, best ideas and practices, a deeper integration can be gained as values;

A swifter dynamics in terms of application of the elaborated and adopted legislative and regulatory initiatives (as in Ukraine we, normally, have a durable gap between a norm’s adoption and its practical introduction);

Attraction of private investments into the development of the sector (incl. through a PPP format); ?

Focus on actual effects from anticipated legislative acts adopted (such as new Law on Sea Ports, Customs Code). Liberalization and improvement of other legislative norms with the aim to near them to the best EU practices.

 It is obvious that Ukraine can increase their competitiveness in the logistics industry, it will be a powerful driver for economic recovery and prosperity in the future.
