OREANDA-NEWS.  January 26, 2012. Nuclear-powered icebreakers "Arctic" and "Siberia" have exceeded its service life and will be decommissioned until 2020, FSUE "Atomflot" said. The state-owned enterprise plans to announce tender for the vessels scrapping contract.

The company said there are now a few dockyards that could be selected to scrap the icebreakers: Severodvinsk-based shipyard, 82th Shipyard in Roslyakovo and Snezhnogorsk-based Nerpa Shipyard, Murmansk region.

Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Atomflot" a technological and maintenance services provider for nuclear-powered icebreakers and special fleet. From 2008 FSUE Atomflot (Rosatomflot) has been a member of state-run Rosatom Corporation. On August 28, 2008 the management of nuclear-powered icebreaking fleet was transferred to FSUE Atomflot. Now, Atomflot's fleet of icebreakers comprises 4 nuclear icebreakers with 75,000-shp dual-reactor plant, and 2 icebreakers with 40,000-shp single-reactor plant. The company also provides icebreaking pilotage along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and to freezing Russian ports, container shipping by the nuclear-powered lighter carrier Sevmorput, etc.
