OREANDA-NEWS. February 6, 2012. India continues negotiations with Belarus over the prospects of investing in a stake in OJSC Belaruskali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Manoj Kumar Bharti told a press-conference on Tuesday.

India has demonstrated an interest in acquiring a stake in Belaruskali, so now for the most part it depends on the decision of the Belarusian government, the diplomat said.

The parties have continued negotiations to decide on the size of the stake to be sold to India, the ambassador said.

The state-owned Belarusian company OJSC Belaruskali is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of potash fertilizers, employing about 18,440 personnel. It operates the Starobinskoye potash salts deposit and comprises four mine groups, auxiliary shops and support units.

Belaruskali controls 16% of the world’s potash fertilizer market.

The government of Belarus assessed the 100% stake in state-owned OJSC Belaruskali at USD 30 billion.
