OREANDA-NEWS. February 6, 2012. The project of construction of a new boiler-house in Suojarvi able to burn local peat was presented to Head of Karelia Andrei Nelidov at the meeting in the Government of the republic on February, 1.

A well-known in Karelia Peter-Peat company that has built and successfully runs a peat-burning boiler-house in the settlement of Essoila of Pryazha region has tackled the heating problems of the town of Suojarvi. Yuri Kancher, First Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia, and Sergey Truntsev, director general of Peter-Peat Joint-Stock Company, submitted the new investment project to Andrei Nelidov. Vladimir Khlebalin, Chief of the Administration of the Head of the Republic of Karelia, Viktor Drozdov, Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Karelia for Housing and Communal Services and Energy and others have also taken part in the meeting.

Today the most part of the town of Suojarvi is heated by a boiler-house of the local cardboard factory, for which the issue of municipal services is of minor importance. This boiler-house burns expensive black oil, the equipment there is worn out and needs frequent repair. As a result, heating problems occur constantly, and it is well-grounded that the town-dwellers demand from authorities of all levels to get orderly municipal service. Construction of a new efficient boiler-house in Suojarvi is a long-standing need, and the Government of Karelia has found an investor capable of solving heating problems and proven to be competent during implementation of a similar project in the neighbouring region.

As Sergey Truntsev has told, the new boiler-house in Suojarvi will be built in summer by the next cold season. The boiler-house will be completely independent of the cardboard factory, as it will burn milled peat that will be extracted since spring at the deposit located near the town. In the boiler-house it is planned to install modern Finnish equipment, in particular, two boilers having a capacity of 12 and 6 megawatt. The smaller boiler will be used during the warm season to supply water to the town. First, apartment houses and social objects heated by the boiler-house of the cardboard factory will be linked to the new boiler-house. Next, the project provides connection to a new source of heat supply for consumers heated by other small boiler-houses.

It is also important that using peat is much more economically sound compared to using black oil. At the meeting it was pointed out that the cost price of heat in this case will decrease essentially, that will reduce heating prices for the population. Besides, peat is a local of fuel which delivery does not cost much, and Peter-Peat has experience in development of peat deposits.

Andrei Nelidov supported the investment project and has charged the Government of Karelia to render comprehensive support to its implementation. "It is not a business-project to us, on its social importance it is on the first place, – Head of the republic said. – You may count on serious support from the Government in this issue. We are doing it in order to approach the next cold season with your boiler-house which is not involved in any other commercial enterprise in any way, and supply the townspeople of Suojarvi with a guaranteed and quality heating of their houses."

Andrei Nelidov has appointed Yuri Kancher, First Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia, the project monitor on the part of the Government of the republic.
