OREANDA-NEWS. March 15, 2012. The Vyborg Shipyard JSC signed the contract for construction of two diesel-powered open sea icebreakers 16 MW, project 21900M. The Contracts, total cost about 8 billion roubles, were signed by the President of USC JSC - Roman Trotsenko and by the General Director of Vyborg Shipyard JSC - Valery Levchenko.

Contracts with United Shipbuilding Corporation for construction of two modern ice breakers, will allow Vyborg Shipyard to overcome financial difficults and to provide production load of Yard.

Delivery dates of orders are May and October, 2015. New icebreakers have improved capability, inclusive of operating experience of two icebreakers, pr. 21900, at the provision of icebreaker assistence for recent winter navigation in the Gulf of Finland.

The icebreaker vessel, project 21900M, is double-decker, fitted with a helideck, draught is about 10 000 tons, length  - 116 m, width -  26,5 m, and it has capability to get through  ice in  thickness to 1,5 metres.
