OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2012. FSUE “Gas-Turbine Engineering RPC “Salut” is to supply a large batch of AI-222-25 engines for JSC  “Irkut” Corporation”. These will be installed on Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft ordered by the Russian Air Force. A relevant Contract was signed on 14 February 2012 between Aleksey Fyodorov, President of JSC  “Irkut” Corporation”, and Vladislav Masalov, Director General of FSUE “Gas-Turbine Engineering RPC “Salut”.

The AI-222-25 aeroengines to be supplied will meet the requirement of 55 newly built Yak-130 aircraft as provided for in a Contract between the Russian Ministry of Defense and “Irkut” Corporation signed in December 2011.

“This Contract - being part of the state defense orders portfolio - is bringing into focus our priorities in terms of both meeting the delivery deadlines, and ensuring the quality standards”, said Vladislav Masalov. “This is the first long-term contract to be pursued over the next 3 years, which will allow us to move along with its fulfillment at an orderly working pace while meeting all the agreed timeframes” – stressed Director General of Salut.

Aleksey Fyodorov, President of “Irkut” Corporation, pointed out that the share of the state defense orders for his company is on the increase. “We have also started the deliveries of Yak-130 aircraft to foreign customers. In our assessment, this aircraft type enjoys good prospects of making further headway in the international markets. Meantime, “Irkut” is engaged in the enhancement of Yak-130 combat capabilities” – he added. Brief information:

The AI-222-25 engine is serially manufactured in cooperation between FSUE “Gas-Turbine Engineering RPC “Salut” and Joint-Stock Company “Motor Sich” (Ukraine). The deliveries under previous contracts were intended for operational testing purposes, flying schools and export requirements. The joint research and development activity together with SE “Ivchenko Progress” (Ukraine) is currently underway to achieve the engine improvements.
