OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2012. More than a half of Ukrainian payment cards' owners use them against their own will. This is evidenced by the banking market of Ukraine research, conducted in Q4 2011 by GFK Ukraine. Mostly, clients of Ukrainian banks open payment cards on their employer’s initiative. Among the commercial banks, which were testified, PrivatBank has the least number of clients, who opened a card on somebody else’s initiative.

Customers who have opened personal, payroll or credit card were interviewed during the research. According to the survey, nearly 70% of the cards opened in majority of domestic banks were initiated by enterprises or companies which they work in. Only 18%, or one-fifth of the surveyed banks' customers received their cards on their own initiatives.

Among the largest commercial banks, the largest part of cards issued on the initiative of the employer, has been opened in "UkrSibbank" - 67%, at RSE "Aval", this amount is 58%. In this case, the market leader - PrivatBank, according to GFK Ukraine, the share of such cards in the overall portfolio made up 41%.

Credit cards for personal use more often are opened in PrivatBank - 34% of respondents, or every third client, stated such purpose of opening the card. In the RSE "Aval" 27% of the customers open a card on its own initiative, 20% - in "UkrSibbank" and 18% of clients - in other banks.

In addition to receiving wages Ukrainians open payment cards for pension benefits - 19%, scholarships - 5% and for other purposes - 9%, according to the GFK Ukraine research.
