OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2012. The Korean company, Hyundai Heavy Industries, - the fourth producer of industrial equipment in the world, wants to invest in Moldova in such areas as electric energy generation, including from renewable energy sources, automotive industry. Also, the concerned company is willing to export Moldovan wines and farming goods to Asian markets.

Other sectors of interest are construction of highways, electrification of the railway, supply of medium-speed locomotives, etc., according to the Economics Ministry's information and media communication service.

The director of the Hyundai Corporation in Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Kin Wu Park, on a visit to Chisinau, voiced the above-mentioned intention at a today's meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar. "So far, Korea has been exporting vehicles, chemical and steel production to Moldova . Now, we want to extend the range of exported Korean goods and enter the market with electric transformers and high-tension equipment, solar panels, aeolian turbines, etc.," Kin Wu park said.

"We want a strategic partnership with the Hyundai corporation and to turn to account its potential, in order to increase our exports to non-traditional markets for Moldova, such as the ones of Korea, China and Japan. Nevertheless, we have greater interest in the attraction of investments in industrial productions in Moldova," Valeriu Lazar stressed.

The economics minister presented the government's investment priorities. He put emphasis on opportunities from the energy sector, both on the segment of generation and distribution of electricity, need to electrify and modernize the park of locomotives of the Moldovan Railways, launch an operational phase of upgrading the infrastructure, including the road one. Valeriu Lazar invited the Korean corporation to participate in international tenders for all these fields, and gave assurances as regards the transparency and competition environment to hold these tenders. At the same time, Lazar assured about full administrative, logistic and information support on behalf of the Economics Ministry to launch industrial projects in Moldova.

Kin Wu Park also expressed intention to participate in more of the above-mentioned investment tenders and launch a pilot project in the renewable energy sector.

The representatives of the Hyundai Heavy Industry corporation also showed interest in facilities given by investment attraction instruments - free economic zones and industrial parks - and the potential offered Moldova by an agreement on free change in the CIS and facilitated trade regime with the European Union, and in the long run, - by Moldova joining the free change area with the EU.
