OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2012. This heating season, consumption of heat has decreased in the multi-storey apartment buildings in Vilnius maintained by City Service Group. Having verified heat consumption indicators over a period of four months, professionals stated that they were 17% better than the indicators prior to the beginning of the intensive implementation of saving measures.

In the 2009 “2010 heating season, the weighted heat consumption coefficient (K) in the buildings maintained by City Service Group was 36.94 Wh/DD/m2, while in the 2011 “2012 heating season, the coefficient is only 30.66 Wh/DD/m2, that is, 17% lower. It should be noted that that the coefficient shows heat energy costs per total heated area per degree day. The smaller the coefficient, the more efficiently heat is consumed in the multi-storey apartment building.

We started implementation of heat-saving measures in the buildings maintained by us a couple of years ago when heating prices skyrocketed. Last year, we created the?Five Step Heat-Saving Programme™. The work proposed in the programme was carried out in around 2,000 multi-storey apartment buildings in major cities of the country. We can see that the efforts of the administrators helped people to save, Vytautas Turonis, executive director of City Service for Lithuania, said.

The data on heat consumption indicators was obtained by monitoring 1,200 multi-storey apartment buildings in the capital city.

According to Turonis, prior to the start of the heating season, new windows and doors were installed or old ones were sealed in the stairwells of the buildings, balancing equipment for heating systems was installed, and the old insulation of heating pipes was replaced with new, more efficient insulation. In other cities, mainly in Kaunas and Klaipeda, outdated heating units were replaced with modern, automated equipment. This resulted in 30% and more heat saving in individual multi-storey apartment buildings.
