OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2012. In the 1st half of 2012 JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” handled 4.5 mln. tons of cargoes which is by 25% more than in the last year.

Within six months of 2012 handling volumes of general cargoes increased by 11%, up to 3.6 mln. tons, handling volumes of loose and bulk cargoes increased almost thrice up to 802 thousand tons. Handling volumes of cars increased by 12% and amounted to 34 935 units.

Export volumes in the port reached 3.4 mln. tons, which is by 26% more than in the 1st half of 2011, handling import volumes increased by 20% up to 1.1 mln. tons.

Positive dynamics of turnover was caused by increase of throughput capacity of the terminals of the company and extension of the range of cargoes.

In particular, new equipment was purchased, handling technologies were modernized, system of logistic and informational interaction with the clients was renewed. Besides, due to the efficient interaction with JSC “RZhD” it was possible to prevent problems related to railway infrastructure and downtime of railcars. Favourable weather conditions in the beginning of the year also significantly influenced the turnover.
