OREANDA-NEWS. July 24, 2012. Continuing with its philosophy of enhancing educational standards in and around its areas of operation for its communities, Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, provided educational kits to school children from the Mundra and Mandvi Taluka under its initiative Pravesh Utsav. The primary objective of this initiative was to create awareness on the importance of education among community members and orient them on the admission process going on in schools.

During the year, the company provided around 850 educational kits to the new entrants of the schools in Mundra and Mandvi Taluka. While 750 educational kits were distributed in Mandvi Taluka covering 42 schools, 100 educational kits were distributed in three schools of Mundra Taluka. In the previous year, the company had supported 640 children and distributed educational kits to them. In a bid to create environmental awareness among students, the company also printed slogans on bags on preserving environment, energy conservation, educational tips, etc.

The Pravesh Utsav initiative is part of Project Shiksha Saarthi, which the company started in 2009 to enhance educational standards in the region. The initiative educates and encourages parents to admit their children to school. This annual programme, held by Tata Power in association with government of Gujarat, is aimed at increasing the enrolment of children, especially girls, in primary schools.

Commenting on this initiative KK Sharma, chief, Mundra project, said, “We believe that small steps taken in this direction will have a great impact on the future of the younger generation of communities. This initiative has been widely appreciated by all and this is evident from the increase in the number of entrants this year. We look forward to many more such interactive sessions going ahead.”

The Pravesh Utsav has now become a platform where three institutions, i.e government, industries and educational institutes have joined hands to enhance educational standards and build a sustainable society. During this occasion, dignitaries from Gujarat government, village panchayat members, opinion leaders, representatives from political institutions were present and appreciated the efforts of the company.
