OREANDA-NEWS. August 13, 2012. In the course of the repair program of TGC-1, repair works of hydroelectric technical equipment were completed on three hydroelectric plants of the Polar Region.

Reconstruction of hydroelectric unit No 3 of Niva HPP-2 was completed on the Niva HPPs Cascade. Litter retaining grates designed for water purification and prevention of various debris from getting directly in the hydroelectric unit were replaced, as well as fast-falling shields that cut off the water by the dam in case of emergency situations.

Maintenance repairs of hydroelectric unit No2 of Janiskoski HPP are wrapping up on the Paz HPPs Cascade. The axial bearing and the generator bearing were repaired in the course of the works, and a complete overhaul of litter retaining grates was conducted. A complete overhaul of the turbine bearing was conducted during the maintenance repairs of hydroelectric unit No1 of Hevoskoski HPP.

These hydroelectric plants have been in operation for a long time. Niva HPP-2 is a firstling of the Polar Region energy development. It was put into operation in 1934. Janiskoski HPP was destroyed during World War II and was restarted in 1950. Hevoskoski HPP is one of the youngest hydroelectric plants in Murmansk Oblast, and was put into operation in 1970. The equipment is being gradually replaced and modernized in order to maintain the reliability of equipment work.
