OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2012. Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, has always been at the forefront of taking initiatives that help in preservation of the environment. In another such initiative, Tata Power recently inaugurated a rooftop rainwater harvesting system at their Power House No 6 plant at Jamshedpur.

Rooftop rainwater harvesting system is a process where rainwater is collected over building roofs and sheds to be utilised later. The water is then sent for purification, where it passes through a filtering process and is later percolated in tanks to be used. At Power House No 6, rooftop rainwater harvesting systems have been set up at the cooling water pump house and attached buildings. The total catchment area is 795 sq m.

The rooftop rainwater harvesting system was inaugurated by DS Kudalkar, general manager (Jamshedpur), Tata Power, on August 8, 2012, at Power House No 6 in Tata Steel.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr Kudalkar said, “Rain water harvesting is emerging as a top priority for all corporate houses as well as for common citizens. Our ground water reserve is shrinking every day and fresh water becomes more precious due to increasing demand. Tata Power, being a front-runner, has always emphasised the need of water conservation and has been implementing such initiatives wherever possible.”
