OREANDA-NEWS. August 29, 2012. The No. 1 Unit at the Hezhou Thermal Plant commenced commercial generation. The coal-fired thermal facility (scheduled to have two 1 GW units) is being built by China Resources Power (Hezhou) Co., Ltd. which is a joint venture between JM Energy, in which Mitsui & Co., Ltd. ("Mitsui") Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. ("J-Power") and the Development Bank of Japan Inc. ("DBJ") are shareholders, and China Resources Power Holdings Company Limited ("CR Power").

The purpose of this IPP project is to build the first ultra-supercritical ("USC") coal-fired thermal power plant in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China. USC power plants provide better thermal efficiency than conventional plants while reducing CO2 emissions. Located in Hezhou City, the project will help to ensure reliable supplies of electric power in southern China, which is achieving rapid economic development, while also contributing to energy conservation and environmental improvement.

Mitsui will continue its efforts to improve the value of the project by managing the construction and operation of the new facility in cooperation with J-Power, DBJ and CR Power.
