OREANDA-NEWS. August 29, 2012.  In the framework of assistance to the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority (TAEK) representatives of the IAEA in August visited Akkuyu NPP site (architect general is Atomenergoproekt, Moscow) to assess siting conditions of the nuclear power plant and to familiarize with the ongoing engineering surveys.

The experts were interested in a broad range of issues, including site seismicity, geotechnical studies and meteorological and radiological observations. They were shown to the region of planned construction of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey and taken to the weather tower and geotechnical laboratory. They also conducted field observations and held consultations with specialists.

At the visit wrap-up meeting the IAEA experts highly appraised the arrangements and technical level of the engineering surveys on the Akkuyu NPP site, specifically noting their compliance with the Agency’s guides and requirements.

Atomenergoproekt is the developer of the engineering survey program on the Akkuyu NPP site and the drafter of the terms of reference document to implement these activities. At the present time, the company’s specialists exercise technical control over engineering surveys being carried out by the Turkish contractors.
