OREANDA-NEWS. September 5, 2012. By the beginning of the new academic year, MegaFon has provided 30 secondary schools with Wi-Fi Internet in the territory of the North-West Branch of the Company.

Mobile Internet by MegaFon is available now to students of 28 schools and foster homes in the Arkhangelsk Region, the Gavrilov-Yamskoy orphanage in Yaroslavl Region and the Belsk-Ustiyensky orphanage in Pskov Region.

Access to cyber space grants fundamentally new opportunities for the development of modern students: children can access a number of useful sources which were previously unavailable in remote districts where Internet access was limited due to technical capabilities or it did not exist at all

Using mobile Internet during classes also provides new opportunities to teachers to broaden the horizons of their students: for example, world cultural heritage is now closer to the most remote parts of the country. Exposure to the history and geography of our planet through the use of high quality Network becomes a fascinating journey and interactive programs make the learning process truly interesting regardless of the educational focus.

But Internet access can also be detrimental to children if used improperly and instead of as a tool to search for needed information. As a measure to protect children from harmful information, MegaFon provides the ‘Internet for Children’ service that restricts access to potentially harmful sites. Upon activation of the service, only tested Internet-sources are accessible. Today, over 800 000 websites have been manually tested in the RuNet.
