OREANDA-NEWS. September 11, 2012. In the course of the APEC 2012 Business Summit in the city of Vladivostok State Corporation ‘Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs (Vnesheconombank)’, OJSC the Far East and the Baikal Region Development Fund and OJSC the Khabarovsk Airport entered into a Memorandum on Cooperation and Interaction in Implementing a Project on the Comprehensive Development of Airports in the Far East Federal District (FEFD).

On behalf of Vnesheconombank the Memorandum was signed by Vnesheconombank Chairman Vladimir Dmitriev and on behalf of OJSC the Far East and the Baikal Region Development Fund - by Director General Gennady Alexeev and on behalf of OJSC the Khabarovsk Airport – by Managing Company KOMAX (LLC) President Konstantin Basyk.

Under the Memorandum the parties are to explore a possibility of their joint participation in implementing a project aimed at the comprehensive development of the Far East Federal District and creating a regional airport holding through consolidating airport assets on the basis of the Khabarovsk Airport.

Main FEFD airports are expected to be included in the holding. These airports cover all routes of intra-Russian and main routes of international transportation.

The Memorandum provides for analyzing and developing technological and financial schemes for implementing the project.

The parties believe that this project’s implementation would be highly instrumental in developing transport infrastructure and forming a network of advanced regional airports and this will have a positive impact on the macro region’s socio-economic development.

The Khabarovsk Airport is ranked 12th in the rating of Russian airports by passenger traffic flow and – 1st among Far Eastern airports. In 2011, the airport’s total passenger traffic flow was about 1.6 million passengers and its freight traffic – 22.4 thousand tons. In 2011, OJSC the Khabarovsk Airport was declared the laureate of The Company of the Year National Award.
