OREANDA-NEWS. September 18, 2012.  On the 17-th of September at the 56-th Session of the IAEA General Conference the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and ROSATOM signed a Practical Arrangement on the cooperation in the management of nuclear knowledge. In the presence of ROSATOM Director General Sergey Kirienko the document was signed by Vyacheslav Pershukov, Deputy Director General and Director of the Block for Innovation Management of ROSATOM, and Alexander Bychkov, Deputy Director General and Director of Department of Nuclear Energy of the IAEA.

This practical arrangement is a cooperation roadmap for the IAEA and ROSATOM and provides for joint initiatives in 7 areas. These include the cooperation in organization of international conferences, the cooperation in development and implementation of the IAEA projects on archiving and keeping critical knowledge, the cooperation in development and implementation of the IAEA projects on compiling packages of special knowledge in different reactor types, the participation in the missions of the IAEA experts related to the management of nuclear knowledge and support of such missions, the cooperation in the development of the IAEA guides for the nuclear knowledge management, as well as the support of their translation into the Russian language and the study of opportunities of sending specialists in areas of the mutual interest for internship.

In the framework of these areas a number of projects have been planned and already implemented. In December 2012 in Moscow the International Conference “Management of Knowledge and Innovations: Lessons Learned from Technology Leaders” will be held. A project has started on retaining of critical knowledge and the participation of Russia’s experts in the IAEA working group is broadening. Also, the participation of Russia’s nuclear experts in the IAEA expert missions is planned.

“The knowledge is the most significant resource for technological breakthroughs. Today, it is insufficient just to preserve and transfer the knowledge to new generations and nuclear newcomers. An additional focus is needed on innovations, support and promotion of gifted people, young leaders, on settlement of intellectual property issues and creation of the intellectual environs for interaction to promote intrinsic safety principles. Therefore, ROSATOM is active in structuring its knowledge management program, while being guided by the fundamental principles of the IAEA. And I believe that the signing of the Practical Arrangement with the IAEA at the 56-the Session of the General Conference is a very important step for our program implementation,” Vyacheslav Pershukov commented on the document signing.
