OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2012. ABBYY®, a leading provider of document recognition, document capture, and linguistic technologies and services, and MacCentre, an exclusive distributor of ONYX International in Russia, today announced their long-term partnership to provide users of newly-released ONYX BOOX® e-reading devices with the ability to get an instant translation of words and phrases thanks to the pre-installed English to Russian and Russian to English dictionaries of the Lingvo® Dictionaries series. With this integration, ONYX BOOX customers can definitely get more from their devices and use them as efficiently as never before.

“We are highly attentive to our customers’ needs and always striving to address them fully when producing new series of e-readers and updating firmware”, commented Evgeny Suvorov, head of Mobile Solutions Department at MacCentre. “One of the top requirements was to have dictionary software at hand to freely read books in foreign languages, and now we are glad to provide our users with up-to-date high-quality dictionaries by ABBYY.”

“It’s both a very convenient reading and great user experience when you get a pop-up translation for unfamiliar words in your text. It makes you feel you would like to have such a handy device with you all the time to read interesting books on a trip, or vacation, or at a cup of coffee”, explained Olga Tolstunova, sales and marketing director of Mobile Products Department at ABBYY. “Having this in mind, customer-focused manufacturers power their e-readers with dictionary applications, and we are pleased to offer them our knowledge and help”.

Specifically adapted to ONYX BOOX readers, these pre-installed dictionaries of the Lingvo series cover more than 200,000 entries and can be applied in two modes – a “common dictionary” mode, very similar to launching dictionary software on a smartphone or desktop alone from the text, and a “translate-while-reading” mode making reading in foreign languages enjoyable and fast. A user can easily get a brief entry containing translations, synonyms and word usage examples by simply tapping twice on the unfamiliar word.
