OREANDA-NEWS. October 9, 2012. Belarus saw the consumer price index grow 1.5% over the first 25 days of September 2012 and 16.3% since early this year, the National Statistics Committee told.

The largest increase in retail prices was registered with wheat flour (3.9%), vodka (3.7%), vegetable oil (3.5%), butter (3.3%), eggs (3.2%), semolina (2.8%), milk powder blends used as baby food (2.7%), milk and dairy products (2.6%), prefabricated poultry products, canned meat (2.5%), live fish (2.1%), mayonnaise (2%), salt (1.9%), confectionery goods (1.7%), smoked sausage (1.3%), bread and bakery goods (1.1%), prime-grade boiled sausage (0.9%), women’s clothing, footwear (1.7%), fabrics (1.4%), electrical appliances (0.6%), higher education fees (24.8%), hot running water supply (22.4%), household services (2.7%).

With the arrival of new vegetables and fruits, the retail price of fresh carrots reduced by 20.5%, beet roots – down 16.6%, potatoes – down 14.5%, onions – down 13.6%, white cabbage – down 10%, apples – down 20.3%.

Tomato prices grew 16%, citrus fruits – up 5.5%, bananas – up 35.8%.

As previously reported, Belarus saw the consumer price index grow 108.7% in 2011, although the initial forecast for 2011 stood at 7.5%-8.5%. Belarus’ inflation forecast for 2012 stands at 19-22%.
